HyFlex Learning Community Building the Hybrid-Flexible Future Together
Brief Update: April 1, 2022

Topics: Next Gathering (webinar) Scheduled | HyFlex "In the News" | June 2022 Workshop Opportunity

Hello, HyFlex Learning Community members!

What a crazy time we live in! As masks are coming off inside classrooms in many schools, in some regions more severe restrictions are being re-implemented due to another wave of the pandemic.

The need for flexibility, resilience, agile decision-making, and being prepared for almost anything and everything it seems keeps getting more important.

Next Gathering Scheduled: April 8, 2022

We've scheduled our next gathering event (webinar) for April 8, 11 am -12 pm PDT (GMT/UTC -7) to
focus on discussing some needed flexibility in our HyFlex offerings as more students are telling us they prefer the online mode(s) we offer. What should we do when all of our students in a HyFlex class choose to participate online and their participation flexibility takes place between synchronous and asynchronous online modes? Is this still HyFlex when no one chooses the classroom option? Should we call this something different? Bring your ideas, questions, and comments, and join us live online if you can.

HyFlex "In the News"

I wanted to highlight one recent item posted to the EDUCAUSE Review blog. Jodie Penrod provides an insightful argument for the role of HyFlex learning (and teaching) in forging our new higher education landscape, post COVID-19 pandemic.

1. Staying Relevant: The Importance of Incorporating HyFlex Learning Into Higher Education Strategy, by Jodie Penrod of Ohio University.

"The future success of higher education is at stake. The pre-pandemic days of students attending their classes either fully in person on campus or fully online are gone. "

HyFlex Course Design Workshop June 13-17, 2022 - open for registration

Our next HyFlex Course Design workshop is happening June 13-17, 2022. This fully online workshop is hosted in our own LMS site, is facilitated by several members of the HLC team, and consists of five 90-minute synchronous sessions throughout the week, supported by online resources and asynchronous discussion activities each day. Fully asynchronous participation is also supported. Participants can earn up to two HyFlex Learning badges for workshop activities and the completion of all assignments. We do anticipate scheduling another workshop in August 2022.
