As the academic year settles into rhythm, many of us are refining our HyFlex designs and adapting based on what’s working (and what’s not) for our students this term. That’s one of the great strengths of HyFlex: it invites ongoing iteration and reflection. And as technology changes, local policies and strategic initiatives change, and the realities of learning and teaching in a GenAI-enables world continue to confront us daily, many in our community are exploring how AI tools can support learners in choosing, engaging, and succeeding across modes, while also helping designers and instructors plan, facilitate, and evaluate more effectively. Each innovation adds to our shared understanding of what flexible, high-quality learning can look like in practice.
Looking ahead, we’re excited for the 4th Annual HyFlex Collaborative Conference (HCC 26), where educators, designers, and researchers from around the world will gather to explore AI and other emerging technologies in the service of HyFlex teaching and learning. This year’s conference continues to build momentum for our global community, highlighting creative strategies, practical tools, and new insights that advance flexibility, engagement, and inclusion across learning environments. Below, we've linked the Call for Proposals and the general conference information website.
Upcoming Events:
1. HLC Gathering (webinar)
Next Community Gathering – October 31, 2025: We will hold our next webinar on October 31, and continue our 2025 Gathering Series, GenAI to Support HyFlex Course and Program Design. Our fourth session will explore and demonstrate the next custom GPT for HyFlex Design, HyFlex Planning for Engagement (freely available in the OpenAI GPT Store). The GPT takes your planning to the next major stage as you consider engaging learners in multiple and varied ways as a way to support and evaluate learning in all modes. How can we engage learners in their own learning process fairly and with equivalent environments? How can we help learners self-evaluate their learning in each mode? We will share access to this GPT during the webinar so those participants with an OpenAI account for ChatGPT (free or paid) can experiment with the GPT as we discuss this and other GPTs focused on engagement in learning. Please join us on October 31!

After October 31, you can review this webinar with all the other Gatherings on the Gathering Archives page.
2. 4th Annual HyFlex Collaborative Conference scheduled for June 25, 2026
The HyFlex Collaborative is pleased to welcome educators, researchers, and learning professionals from around the world to the 4th Annual HyFlex Collaborative Conference (HCC 26)! This year’s theme, “Reenvisioning HyFlex through AI and Other Emerging Technologies,” invites us to look ahead at how tools such as artificial intelligence, extended reality, and adaptive learning systems are reshaping the future of hybrid-flexible education.
Throughout the program, participants will explore practical ways emerging technologies are enhancing HyFlex teaching and learning—from AI-driven feedback and adaptive assessment systems to immersive XR environments and GenAI-powered course design. These innovations reflect the enduring HyFlex values of student choice, equivalency, and accessibility, helping educators connect in-person, online, and asynchronous learners more effectively than ever.
The HyFlex Collaborative community remains dedicated to expanding access to high-quality, equitable learning for all. HCC 26 continues that mission by creating space for collaboration, reflection, and shared discovery—whether you’re an experienced HyFlex practitioner or just beginning your journey. Together, we’re exploring how technology can extend the reach and impact of HyFlex design across disciplines, institutions, and borders.
